MMP 64: Make Yourself An Amazing Affirmation To Get On The Right Wavelength

Welcome

If you're an enthusiastic co-creator or otherwise positive person, you may pull out an affirmation when you're having an "off" day. While some don't see the use of repeating something to uplift yourself, those of us who do use them know a well-written one can be invaluable. This episode is all about crafting affirmations that will help us shift our perspective and align with our desires.

Hey there, I'm Marcie Robinson, and it's time for the Magnetic Me, You + Law of Attraction Podcast. Welcome, come on into our super magnetic space because it's always a sunny day here. It's episode 64, so let's catch up and leave here feeling lighter, brighter, and filled with the best kind of co-creative energy. In other words, let's get our shine on!

What Is An Affirmation?

I singled out positive-minded people there because, without some excellent reason and some prodding, in my experience, I haven't found that skeptics or people who "see the glass half empty" would even consider affirmations. At least in the sense that I'm talking about. The reason is in the name itself, of course, because this word's vibration feels so good, at least it does to me. An affirmation is a "yes" or an assertion, and it's about professing the truth of something. It's supposed to be an encouragement or to support an idea, hopefully, a good one. Technically it doesn't have to be something positive because you can support a crappy idea all you want, and the way you affirm that is by telling yourself things that will make you feel all the more negative and pessimistic.

So if you're wondering why you'd need to create uplifting affirmations, I just gave you the answer. Life doesn't always give us sunny days and roses. When you want to change your life to get results that seem very big or far away to you, there's gonna be a lot of stuff happening to get you from where you are now to where you want to be. Building a mindset that helps you through that process isn't always as easy as flipping a switch. But as we already know, sometimes small adjustments make a big difference, and positive affirmation is a great way to do it. Since affirmations have been linked to almost everything from relieving stress to academic achievement, it's something I like to take seriously.

Top 5 Questions Answered Here

So I'm here today to answer the top 5 questions you might have or that I get asked a lot when I talk about affirmations with my new students/clients.

1. WHY AFFIRMATIONS?

There are lots of reasons, but the best ones I can think of as to why you'd want to try them is that;

  • They're easy to create.
  • They're easy to change.
  • They're easy to use.

Anyone can do this without needing a lot of training or any equipment. All you need to know is what makes a great one, and get at it!

2. HOW DO I KNOW IT WILL WORK?

Well, there just happens to be some science that backs these babies up. Some scientific studies suggest that when we use something called

self-affirmation, we become more aware of making mistakes. Now you might be saying, "Huh? Is that really a good thing?" Actually, yes, it can be if you use it in a positive way.

The idea or the theory of self-affirmation is that we like only to see the parts of ourselves we identify with as being good or make us feel significant. That's a very simplified version, of course, and if you'd like to know more about self-affirmation, I'll leave some links to some reading in the show notes. But as humans, we tend to focus on the parts of us that we feel are noble and worthy. So when we feel threatened or challenged, we become defensive. But it seems as though self-affirmation reduces our defensiveness and can help us deal with anxiety when it comes to our mistakes. Not only that, but when the participants in these studies realized they were making an error, they were more open to the truth of the matter. And that leads to correcting errors or avoiding them entirely. Btw, being solution-oriented is an excellent skill to have for life and for manifesting.

And since actual scientists and not me did these scientific studies, I'd say you're okay to take their word for it that affirmation can work. Since science implies that we can get past less than ideal messaging and reframe negative thoughts to more optimistic ones, we have hope for much better responses and outcomes. That means better energy and results for any would-be manifestor.

3. WHAT TYPE OF AFFIRMATION SHOULD I USE?

There are as many types of affirmations out there as there are desires. Depending on what you want to achieve, here are some of the more common ones;

  • Inspirational ones to motivate you.
  • Healing ones for health challenges or to maintain health.
  • Goal-oriented ones to keep you accountable to your dreams.
  • Change-oriented ones to help you be more receptive to changes you don't want to make.
  • Complimentary ones to boost your self-esteem.

As I said, those are just a few types. Whatever type of affirmation you go with, there are a few common sense things you should think about when choosing one.

  1. Keep it relevant to what you want to accomplish.
  2. Keep it as short, sweet, and easy to remember as possible.
  3. Practice makes perfect.

Let me say there are no hard and fast rules to using affirmations. But remember, if your goal is to change your results, you need to use them like the tool they are. So keep them as close to you as you would your cell phone and expect to use them about a much as you'd use your cell too.

4. DO I USE AN AFFIRMATION THAT I GOT FROM SOMEBODY ELSE, OR SHOULD I MAKE MY OWN?

I always create my own affirmations but as long as you really like one you've heard elsewhere and it fits with what you want, go for it. But just because someone else says you should use this, that, or the other affirmation, don't feel you have to.

The biggest thing you want to keep in mind here is that it should resonate with you when you go to repeat your affirmation. And it's really easy to make your own for different purposes, so all you need to do is to find a few minutes to sit down and work on it, and you could have a long list of ones to use in every situation you could think of.

5. HOW DO I MAKE MAKE A REALLY GOOD AND EFFECTIVE AFFIRMATION?

The first thing you want to do is start when you have a few minutes to do this. Try making it a time when you don't have anyone or anything else vying for your attention. In other words, don't be cooking dinner when you do this because it could backfire big time.

From there;

  • Start them with an "I" or "I am" or "my" to make it pertain to you specifically. You want it directed toward yourself.
  • Work on one point at a time if your goal is a bit complicated, as you can always create simple affirmations for different aspects of things. Jamming as much in as you can into one sentence doesn't mean it's the best affirmation.
  • Keep it uplifting and positive using words that you like the best because the goal is for the affirmation to resonate with you.
  • Keep it relevant to the current situation you want to make strides in or correct.
  • Keep it easy to remember but still charged with the feeling you want to create, and even one word is sometimes enough to pull out and use as an affirmation.
  • Keep it in the present tense remember you're not wanting or needing; you already have it energetically. Keep it supporting the idea of what you want now.

And if you're wondering, no, you don't have to use the same affirmation all the time. We go through different moods and situations throughout the day. Switch out your affirmation when you need to so you can keep your sanity and shift your mindset as required. That's the beauty of it!

TIP FOR AFFIRMATIONS THAT AREN'T WORKING:

  • It should feel believable to you. If you're having difficulty creating the feeling or believability that goes along with the affirmation, adjust the words as needed to develop a sense of authenticity until you can move upward and onward.
