From Uncertain To Accurate; How To Make The Law Of Attraction A Productive Habit
Today I'd like to inspire you to check in with yourself about your goals for the year. It doesn't usually take long after a new one for people to give up on all the great intentions they had at the beginning of the new year. The estimation is that 80-88% of people will give themselves a big, fat fail regarding their goal by the beginning of February. I don't know about you, but I find it tragic that only 8% of people overall will achieve the goal they set out to accomplish by the end of the year. So if you haven't given up completely yet, it's likely that what started out as strong determination on January 1 has mellowed into a more relaxed attitude when it comes to your would-be achievements.
I think it's a great idea for all of us to take a minute right now for ourselves and get real about this. If you'd be so kind, please join me in a little exercise.
The idea is to jump forward in time for a moment and imagine yourself on New Year's Eve this year. You're doing what you'd typically do; whether that's something fun with loved ones, maybe you're out partying it up. You could even be at home sitting in your pajamas. Whatever it is, imagine the moment right before the New Year begins. Now think about what your resolution for next year will be.
According to those statistics I just gave you, it might be that at the end of this year you'll still be in the same place as when you started it. You could have the same goals. You might have a journal or an affirmation someplace with affirmations written out of lists of things to do lying around that you meant to get accomplished, but all of your good intentions have been left untouched. You realize that you didn't take the Law of Attraction seriously, and you missed out. You missed your mark. How in the heck would that make you feel?
I think for most of us, we'd feel pretty crappy about that. But if you take the same scenario and you imagine you've achieved your big goal, you're celebrating. You've got something to celebrate this year because you did it! That means in the next few months, you'll have completed what you set out to do this January. If you can do it, just close your eyes and see it, feel it, taste it. Do in your imagination whatever's going to make that real for you. Sit in the feeling of accomplishment because you did it! You worked the LOA. You got clear, you felt good, you took inspired action, and you followed all the signs. It happened for you. You're on your way.
You can see from this simple exercise that in your attitude and your emotions, you can go from feeling crappy to feeling happy and vice versa pretty quickly. And you might be thinking right now that if you want to achieve your goal this year that you might want to leave that rollercoaster of emotions behind, and I'd agree with you.
Everybody's experience with the Law of Attraction is different. But like anything else, perseverance is the key. The more you come to understand that LOA and how you affect what it does for you, the more successful you're going to be. So make working with it a daily habit, and you're sure to accumulate easier experiences in everything that you do.
If you already know that you have a habit that's interfering with your conscious creation with the LOA, the trick is not to change the habit but to create a new one.
So the first thing is to kick that old habit, whatever it is, to the curb. I don't know if you've ever heard of Maxwell Maltz, but he was the author of the 1960 book Psycho-Cybernetics. And no, I get nothing for saying that. It's a great book about tapping into the power of your subconscious mind. He said it takes roughly 21 days to create a habit. It will be different for different people, of course, depending on the habit, how deeply ingrained in your subconscious it is, and how resistant you are to getting rid of it. Because when we repeat our actions over and over again in the same way, at the same time, that's stored in our brain. Our subconscious will take control of it at some point, and sometimes we don't even realize that we're doing these things.
There is a way to consciously bust a habit that tends to help a lot of people. What you do is get a pen and a piece of paper and write out what that habit is. Then you get out your scissors and cut up the paper or throw it in the garbage. I do also hear that some people like to burn it. If you're brave enough and can do that safely, that's fine, but I'm not necessarily suggesting that, though. The important thing is to write the habit down so you can see it and make an intention to get rid of it then physically get rid of it somehow.
Look not everybody's gonna be great at breaking a habit cold turkey and it's gonna take some practice. But having a memory of putting it on paper then disposing of it can help you remember your intention to do just that.
Now there are a few things to keep in mind when you're creating your new habit of using the Law of Attraction.
*I'd definitely post my aim of easy cooperation with the LOA somewhere.
* Now that you're ridding yourself of bad habits, it's helpful to have them somewhere you can see them to remember those too. Have them available to focus on in moments where it's difficult. Grab a few post-it notes and put 'em on your mirror where you'll see them morning and night. Another great place is on the fridge or in your car. Commit to them.
*Another thing is to be easy on yourself if you find that you're backsliding into old habits. Remember it takes time to make a new habit. So if that happens, stop. Really, just stop, breathe and switch your focus.
*Something else I do is find an LOA technique that I like to do. Pick an appropriate one that will help you remember why you're doing all this in the first place. Then take some time to do it every day until you feel like you've got that alignment with your goal.
*And avoid people or things that tempt you to fall back into old habits. At least for a while. It sounds crass, but you don't have to banish them from your life forever. Just step back and don't invite them in until you're stronger and can avoid the pull of bad influence.
*Find a way to treat yourself and make this fun. Put a date on the calendar for a massage or something else you like. Use it as a reward for staying the course at the 21-day point. You could even repeat it every month if you'd like.
*For organized people who love tracking things, I say track your progress! If you want to make an excel spreadsheet to track all the good stuff that's happening, go for it.
If you're really struggling with whether or not you can use the LOA to reach your goal, then ask yourself these three questions.
- How important is this goal to me?
- What difference will it make in my life to achieve it?
- Is this goal worthy of me?
If you're not coming up with answers that make sense to you or satisfy you, you may be working on the wrong goal. You might want to go back to the first week of the Fresh Start Inception Challenge. Re-do the brain dumping step and the clarity exercises.
If you think you're working on the right goal but you're stuck and not making any progress, you'll want to figure that out ASAP. It's likely that there's a negative vibe like frustration or some kind of resistance holding you back. Ask yourself what's going on that's making you feel that way?
